Community Learning Service

The Community Learning Service now offers accredited courses in a number of different areas, leading to nationally recognised qualifications.

Please note that not all of these courses will be running at set times. If you are interested in putting your name down, then please send us a message and we can add you to the waiting list.

Functional Skills English- A computer-based assessment is required to see if you are Entry, Level 1 or Level 2. Please contact us to go on to the waiting list.

Functional Skills Math- A computer-based assessment is required to see if you are Entry, Level 1 or Level 2. Please contact us to go on to the waiting list.

Functional Skills is a 15-week term-time course and is 09.30am-12pm. The day of the course will depend on your level. Due to spaces, learners are unable to do both at the same time.

NCFE Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools and Colleges – please contact us to be added to the waiting list.

This qualification is an introduction to the knowledge and understanding needed to work in a school or college environment. It can apply to the many varied roles that full and part-time support staff may fulfil, including: administrative roles, site support roles, technical roles and volunteers, as well as roles that work directly with children and young people in the learning environment. (The course requires written tasks to be completed. Therefore, at least a level 1 qualification is essential).

NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Children and Young People’s Mental Health – please contact us to be added to the waiting list.

The purpose of this qualification is to increase learner’s knowledge and awareness of children and young people’s mental health, including the impact of mental ill-health on children and young people and available support. This course is suitable for anyone potentially looking to work with Children and Young People. (The course requires written tasks to be completed. Therefore, at least a level 1 qualification is essential).

 NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Safeguarding and Prevent – please contact us to be added to the waiting list. 

This nationally recognised qualification is designed to increase learners’ knowledge and awareness of safeguarding practices, the Prevent Duty, and online safety.

It is ideal for individuals looking for the employment in education, health, or social care settings.

Learners will explore:

• the principles of safeguarding and how to identify signs of abuse or neglect.
• the Prevent strategy and how to protect individuals from radicalisation.
• online safety and how to create secure environments.

RSPH Level 2 Award in Food Safety and Hygiene- Dates available.

The objective of the RSPH Level 2 Award in Food Safety and Hygiene is to cover the principles of food hygiene for food handlers working in a food environment, as well as to obtain a knowledge and understanding of the importance of food hygiene, associated food safety hazards, good hygiene practice, and controls based upon an awareness of food safety management systems.
