Apprenticeships

We are Portsmouth City Council’s in-house training provider and also work with apprentices from other organisations. We can work with existing staff to up-skill or support employers in the recruitment and support of new apprentices. The Community Learning Service offers Apprenticeships in:

Business:

Education:

Health and Social Care:

If you are interested in an apprenticeship in any of these areas, our workplace assessors are here to support you and help them to choose suitable training options. You can start your apprenticeship at any time of year – there is no need to wait for the start of term or a new school year. Before starting, you will need to demonstrate your skill level in Maths, English and ICT either by supplying GCSE or Functional Level Certificates or by doing an initial assessment with us.

We deliver Maths, English and ICT training to those apprentices who require it as part of their apprenticeship. We also offer workshops that count towards the required off-the-job training.

These can be in topics that include:

  • Health & Safety
  • Equality & Diversity
  • Safeguarding
  • Organisational Skills
  • Problem Solving
  • Team Working
  • British Values

Our workplace assessors will help you to progress to the next level and grow your skills and qualifications.

With hard work from you and support from us, our aim is to increase your skills and independence and to allow you to expand and grow your career with confidence and pride.

Whether you’re an employer or a prospective apprentice and would like to find out more about how to get started, please email us at clsapprenticeships@portsmouthcc.gov.uk

Apprenticeships – Our approach to subcontracting

Portsmouth City Council work with a range of high quality providers to deliver outstanding apprenticeships to our staff.  We are also accredited on the Register of Apprenticeship Training Providers (ROATP) as a provider delivering to levy paying employers.

In our direct delivery it is not our normal policy to use sub contracted provision, however the Council is committed to ensuring that our staff and local people receive the best training opportunities through Apprenticeships at all times.  In specialist circumstances, the Council will consider partnerships to deliver specific standards identified through training needs analysis as key to business development.  This is dealt with on a case by case review and led by the needs of the HR department of the Council.

In 2020/21 the Council has not used any Subcontracting partners for the delivery of Apprenticeships delivered by the Council as an internal provider.
